The group traditionally
performs two seasonal concerts - one in the early winter and one in the spring.
In addition our group performs at area adult residences and other community venues.
Rehearsals and most concerts take place at the St. James
United Methodist Church which is located on the Northwest corner of Pearl and Fair Streets in Kingston, NY.
Proceeds from ticket sales
and advertisers go not only towards the group's expenses, but also to provide an annual scholarship to an area high school graduate who will be pursuing a degree in music. Selection of the scholarship recipient is based on an application and an audition (or tape). A committee makes the final selection. Applications are available in the Spring through High School music departments or use our website contact form to inquire.
In 1976 as part of the Bicentennial celebration, the Mendelssohn Club of Kingston invited a group of women to participate in song. Not wishing the celebration to come to an end, a group of 75 pioneering women formed the Mid-Hudson Women's Chorus.
Forty one years have gone by since the first concert in 1977. Once having joined, most women come year after year - sometimes with a hiatus for landmark life events. Monday night is a night not only for singing, but also the rejuvenation and camaraderie that the group and the singing bring to us. We have been blessed to have the most dedicated and amazing directors and accompanists. In most recent years we have been under the co-direction of Mathew Camara and Doris Blatter. AS of September 2017 we have been under the direction of Wendy Lowe with Doris Blatter as assistant conductor.
